Food and Medicinal Herbs for Fall
As summer ends and fall begins we experience changes in our bodies the same way that nature does. Our digestion slows, our skin gets drier, we become more susceptible to colds and flus, and we become less physically active. Medicinal herb preparations and the foods we eat can help our bodies get through these changes and stay healthy.
As temperatures outside cool, we can warm our bodies by switching out that morning smoothie bowl for a nice bowl of porridge. Instead of having a large salad for lunch, try a burrito bowl or hearty vegetable chowder. And for dinner have a robust pasta dish with some homemade tomato sauce, fall squash, and greens.
To help aid your bodies digestion of all this great food start your day with a glass of warm lemon water, drink mint and chamomile tea after dinner, or take a dropper full bitter tincture.
For dry, chapped skin and lips the best thing you can do is drink lots of water. To aid healing and lock in moisture use an all natural oil based Salve, lip balm, lotion, or body butter. Look for formulas with calendula flower, which has been used for centuries as an overall healing ingredient due to its anti inflammatory properties.
